Novice Eight Takes Gold as Women's Rowing Races at the Murphy Cup

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — Temple's novice eight raced to a gold medal finish, as the Owls' women's crew team hosted the 33rd annual Murphy Cup Regatta on Cooper River. The novice effort was one of two medal finishes for the Owls.
Temple's novice boat opened the day with a heat win, recording a time of 7:21, topping the nearest finisher, Delaware, by over 15 seconds. The Owls then cruised to a win in the finals, recording a 16-second win over the field to tally a time of 7:27.40.
Also grabbing a medal, Temple's novice four advanced to the finals with a second place time of 8:50.68 in the opening heat. The Owls then recorded a time of 8:59.16 to take third in the finals, behind only GW and Bates.
Temple's varsity four notched a second place finish in its heat, off the pace of Delaware. The Owls recorded a time of 8:25.98, but did not advance to finals.
In varsity eight racing, Temple's boats both caught crabs in their heat races, with the top boat ranking fifth in its heat and the second varsity finishing third.
The women's rowing team is back in action on April 4th, taking on Bucknell and Williams on the Schuylkill River.
