Football Holds Alumni Day and Ninth Spring Practice
4.11.15 | Football
PHILADELPHIA --Â The Owls practiced today, wrapping up their ninth of 15 spring sessions.
Â
Today was Alumni Day, the weather was perfect, and Chodoff Field hosted over 60 former Temple Owls. Players from over seven decades (quarterback John McShane who played in 1959, was the oldest) came back to North Broad to watch the 2015 version of the Temple Owls Football team get ready for the season. The lineup had everything you can ask for – the team's all-time leading tackler, former linebacker Steve Conjar; the university's all-time leading rusher, current Temple Football radio analyst Paul Palmer; the only player to have his number (64) retired, former offensive lineman Bill Singletary; and second generation families, former wide receiver Kareem Giliard (now Ali, whose son Kareem Jr. is a freshman cornerback).
The list of letterwinners included: Kareem Ali (1996-97), Scott Andrien (1981-84), Gregg Angeli (1988-91), John Armstrong (1986-89), Victor Bega (1961-63), Kurt Bamberger (1983-84), Don Bitterlich (1973-75), Ikeem Boyd (2014), Almonese Boyles (2000-01), Mark Bresani (1973-76), Jerry Butler (1997-98), Frank Carter (1993-96), Jon Clark (1992, '94-95), Steve Conjar (1978-81), Willard Cooper (1986-88), Gil Crews (1985), Anthony DeGannes (2003), Christian Dunbar (2002-05), Anthony Ferla (2006-07, '09), Ronald Fioravanti (1978-79), Jacob Gicker (1979-82), Keith Gloster (1984-87), Kevin Grady (1973-76), William Grubb (1960-62), Nathan Hall (1971-73), Kevin Harvey (1997-99), Ray Haynes (1986-89), Michael Hinnant (1984-87), Carl Holmes (1984-87), Al House (1981-82), Brent Johnstone (1995-97), Lance Johnstone (1992-95), Victor Lay (1987-89), Tim Leach (1997-99), John Lukens (1961-62), Matt McArdle (1978-81), John McShane (1959-61), Sheldon Morris (1984-87), Daryl Nelson (1989-92), Ryan O'Neal (1989), Paul Palmer (1983-86), Brett Pierce (2014), Philip Prohaska (1977-79), Greg Pronko (1983-84), Evan Regas (2013), Bill Singletary (1970-72), Akeiff Staples (1997, '99-01), Shanga Tabb (2000-01), Levar Tally (1997-00), Greg Taylor (1988-89), Rian Wallace (2003-04), Randy Washington (1998-99), David Weinraub (1961), Kenyatta Williamson (1997-98), Lloyd Yancy (1982-85).
Â
On the field, the defense was coming off a strong performance from Thursday's practice but the offense held the upper hand today. In short yardage situations, running back David Hood, wide receiver Ventell Bryant and tight end Colin Thompson all found the end zone. Bryant scored on a 14-yard slant on a bullet from quarterback P.J. Walker.
Â
The next practice will take place on Tuesday, April 14. The annual Cherry & White Game will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, on Chodoff Field at Edberg Olson Hall.
