Jenna Dubrow and Blanca Fernandez Break School Records at Larry Ellis Invitational
4.17.15 | Women's Track and Field
PRINCETON, N.J. - Two school records were broken Friday evening by two Temple track and field athletes at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Junior Blanca Fernandez and senior Jenna Dubrow set new school records for the Owls in the 800m and 5,000m run.
Fernandez set a school record for the second-consecutive weekend in the 800m run. Her time of 2:08.15 broke Temple's previous school record of 2:08.34 set by Victoria Gocht in 2011. Fernandez placed sixth overall and was the top-collegiate finisher in the event.Â
Dubrow competed in the 5,000m run and placed 15th in a time of 16:58.84, breaking her own record of 17:17.77 that she set in 2012.
"Blanca and Jenna took advantage of a great opportunity tonight and were rewarded for it," said assistant coach James Snyder. "They positioned themselves well throughout the races and were able to finish strong. Anytime you're breaking records like this it's a fantastic feeling and will give them confidence moving forward into Penn Relays and our championship season."
Numerous athletes from the Owls' track and field team will be competing in the Morgan State Legacy meet tomorrow, Saturday, April 18 in Baltimore, Md.Â
