Women's Rowing Grabs Four Medals at the Kerr Cup

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's rowing team captured four medals, two gold, at the 2015 Kerr Cup on Saturday on the Schuylkill River. Temple's novice eight and novice four both won their events, while the varsity eight and the varsity four each grabbed silver at the event.
In novice racing, the Temple eight boat opened with a commanding 45-second win in their heat. The Owls out-paced six boats to advance to the grand final as the top-seed. In the championship race, Temple raced past second-place Drexel, topping the Dragons, and the rest of the field with a final time of 6:57.
The novice four also notched a goal medal finish at the event. The crew opened the day with the fastest time in the heats, topping second-place NY Maritime by over 24 seconds. In the finals, the Owls notched a time of 7:58.31 to take the gold, finishing ahead of five teams, including second-place Drexel (8:08.18).
In varsity racing, Temple had a pair of silver-medal finishes from its eight and four boats. In the varsity eight field, the Owls won their opening heat by nearly five seconds over second-place Villanova. In the grand final, Temple finished second overall with a time of 7:08.12, behind only Drexel who had a 7:02.29.
The Owls' varsity four boat also notched a silver medal finish. Temple's "A" boat won its opening heat with a narrow victory over Lafayette in the heats. In the grand finals, the Owls recorded a time of 8:01.19 to take silver, behind only the Leopards in the race.
Temple's second varsity eight also had a great day on the water. The Owls finished fourth overall in a time of 7:16.09, under two seconds from a medal-finish.
Elsewhere, Temple's second varsity four notched a third place finish in their heat, recording a time of 8:09.00.
The Owls are back in action at the Kelly Cup City Championship next weekend. The event will also be hosted on the Schuylkill River.
