Women's Rowing Takes Three in Saturday Schuylkill Racing
4.5.15 | Women's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA - Battling heavy wind gusts, the Temple women's rowing team nabbed three wins, racing on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. The Owls competed against Bucknell and Williams in a full day of racing.
Due to severe winds that were steady at 20mph with gusts up to 35mph, all races used floating starts. The racing came in two rounds, stretching from 11:00 a.m. for the first start to a 5:02 p.m. race to close the day.
The Owls grabbed their wins against Williams, taking three of four races against the Ephs. The second varsity eight squeaked out a 6:54 to 6:55 victory, while the varsity four notched a 7:47 to 7:50.9 win in their race. The novice eight had the largest margin of victory on the day, recording a time of 7:12.7 to Williams' 7:29.6.
In the varsity eight race against Williams, the Owls fell by just 3.4 seconds. The Ephs crossed the line in 6:59.3, while Temple was right behind, in 7:02.7.
The Owls also raced against Bucknell, with the Bison earning wins in each of the four races. Temple's novice eight had the closest race of the day, finishing just three tenths of a second behind Bucknell (7:05.0 to 7:05.3).
Temple is back in action on April 11 and 12, competing at the two-day Knecht Cup. The event is being hosted on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
