Blanca Fernandez Wins 1,500 Meter Run on Final Day of American Championships

STORRS, Conn. - Six top-10 finishes were earned by Temple track and field on the final day of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, including a first-place finish by Blanca Fernandez. Fernandez took gold in the 1,500m run on Sunday with a time of 4:28.97. Fernandez had another top-five finish on the day with her performance in the 5,000m run, placing fifth in 17:16.76.

In the 400m hurdles, Kaitlyn McSurdy finished sixth with a mark of 1:03.33.

Temple's 4x400m relay team of Hollis Coleman, Kiersten LaRoche, Michelle Davis Timothy and Kenya Gaston placed sixth with a time of 3:41.24. An eighth-place finish in 47.17 seconds was earned by the 4x100m relay team made up of Jimmia McCluskey, Bionca St. Fleur, Courtney Mitchell and Demeshia Davis.

In field events, Sydnee Jacques finished 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.65m.

Overall, Temple placed 11th at the conference meet with a total of 25 points.
