Temple Volleyball Releases 2015 Schedule

5.20.15 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will play a challenging schedule in 2015, with the full slate of games being released today. The Owls will have a hand in hosting three tournaments, while participating in another on the road, before the American Athletic Conference schedule begins in late September.

Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam praised the competitiveness of the Owls' non-conference slate. "This year's non-conference schedule is the most competitive since I've been at Temple," he explained. "Every year we try to schedule more quality opponents, and this one is the most attractive non-conference schedule we've had. It's definitely going to be a challenge, but it's also an opportunity to see where we stack up, and also prepare us for our conference matches."

The Owls will be tested right off the bat, hosting the Temple Invitational August 28 and 29. Temple will square off against Navy, St. John's, and Oregon at the event. Oregon finished the 2014 season ranked 12th in NCAA RPI, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 out of the Pac-12.

Temple then hits the road for another tough tournament, heading to Seton Hall to take on the host, along with Hofstra and Notre Dame. Both Seton Hall and Hoftstra earned bids to the NCAA Tournament last season, while Notre Dame plays in the competitive ACC.

The Owls host their second tournament of the year on September 11 and 12, with Montana, Duquesne, and Binghamton coming to North Broad Street. Temple will also help host the Philadelphia Big 5 Tournament in mid-September, with Friday games being played at Penn, and Saturday's contests coming to McGonigle Hall.

Following their tough non-conference slate, the Owls will begin play in the American Athletic Conference for the third season. Five American teams finished the 2014 season with an RPI of 100 or lower, including Temple, who finished at 62.

"The American is a competitve conference and is only going to get better in 2015," said Ganesharatnam. "From top to bottom, the teams are getting much better. Overall, it's will be a much stronger conference than last year, and we are looking forward to some great competition."

The 2015 Temple Volleyball team will look to improve on a fantastic 2014 campaign that saw the Owls go 24-8 overall and 15-5 in the American Athletic Conference. Individually, the Owls lost second-team All-Conference selection in Jennifer Iacobini, but return the conference Setter of the Year in Sandra Sydlik, and Freshman of the Year in Dara Peric. Temple also boasts returning All-Conference selections Kirsten Overton and Tyler Davis, as well as starting libero, Alyssa Drachslin
