Fifth Place Finish Wraps Season for Men's Crew at IRA Nationals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The Temple men's crew team closed out the 2014-15 season with an outstanding showing at the IRA National Championships. The Owls entered a pair of fours into the event, coming away with a fifth-place finish and a 12th-place finish in the three-day event on Lake Mercer.
Temple's varsity four boat raced through four rounds to finish off its season as fifth in the nation. In the opening heats, the Owls ranked fourth with a time of 6:48.959, advancing them to the second round. In their next race, Temple was second overall, behind only Brown, with a time of 6:54.570, earning the crew a spot in the semifinals.
Temple had a fast semifinal race, topping MIT, Yale, and Cornell, to rank third overall, sending them to the grand finals. In the final race of the year, the Owls finished fifth in a fast field, recording their best overall time (6:26.743) of the weekend. Washington (6:16.321) won the race, followed by Cal (6:19.612), Stanford (6:19.858), and Wisconsin (6:22.472), with Temple defeating Harvard (6:35.443) for its fifth-place finish.
The fifth-place varsity four boat included sophomore coxswain, Dante Romeo, junior stroke Tom Robbins, junior three seat Charles Anderson, freshman two seat Collin McKinney, and junior bow Ryan Dartnell.Â
In lightweight racing, Temple's boat ranked sixth in the petite final, closing their season as the 12th-fastest in the nation. In the opening round, the Owls finished sixth in a fast field, recording a time of 6:49.504. Temple improved its time in the petite final, recording a time of 6:45.078, just over 1.5 seconds out of fifth place.
The lightweight boat featured junior coxswain, Kati Jordan Funck, sophomore stroke Vittorio DiPentino, sophomore three seat Dylan McCreavy, senior Vincent DiPentino, and freshman bow Nicholas Olimpo.Â
