Temple's men's crew team had an outstanding first day of competition at the Dad Vail Regatta
All Six Boats Advance in Heats for Men's Crew at Dad Vails

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's crew team advanced all six of its entries out of heats, capping off an outstanding start to the 2015 Dad Vail Regatta. The 77th annual event is being held on the Schuylkill River and it features over 3,700 competitors.Â
Opening the day, the Owls heavyweight four notched a second-place finish in their heat. The Owls recorded a time of 7:09.031 to out-pace Minnesota, Iona, and Carnegie Mellon to advance to the quarterfinals.Â
Next up, the Owls' varsity eight won their heat, topping Delaware, La Salle, and Binghamton. Temple's placement and time of 5:55.940 sent the crew into the semifinals.
Temple's freshman four also won their heat, recording a time of 7:24.009. The Owls raced past Purdue, Army, Lafayette, Ohio State, and Stevens to earn a spot in the semifinals.Â
The fast racing continued with the lightweight four. The Owls' boat finished in 7:03.119, ahead of Delaware, Virginia, Chicago, Duke, and Marquette.
Another heat win came from the novice eight. Temple recorded a time of 6:30.057 to advance to the semifinals over Army, Minnesota, Binghamton, and Manhattan.Â
The final heat race of the day saw the Owls' second varsity eight win to earn a spot in the semifinals. Temple crossed the finish line in a time of 6:16.378, defeating North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Army, Villanova, and Cincinnati.Â
To close out the day one action, the Owls heavyweight four finished the quarterfinals in sixth, with a time of 07:32.687.
