Women's Rowing Sends Five to Semis at Dad Vails

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's rowing team had a fantastic first day of competition, racing at the 77th-anual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta. The Owls raced in six events on the Schuylkill River, advancing to the semifinals in five categories.
Kicking off the racing, Temple's varsity four notched a four-second victory in its heat, topping Delaware, Carnegie Mellon, Fairfield, and Purdue to advance to the finals. The Owls' recorded a time of 7:43.845 in the heat.
In varsity eight racing, the Owls' top boat advanced to the semifinals with a second place finish in their heat. Temple clocked in at 7:03.258, out-lasting Middlebury, Fairfield, and conference-foe Cincinnati, and were behind only Purdue.
The novice four also finished second in their heat to earn a spot in the finals. Temple's crew finished in 8:26.925, defeating Colgate, UMass-Lowell, Toledo, and Stony Brook, finishing behind only Clemson.
Temple's novice eight continued its fast spring, winning its heat by nearly 11 seconds. The Owls crossed the finish line in 7:09.698, topping Duquesne, Saint Joseph's, American, and Loyola Maryland, and advancing to the semis.
In second varsity eight racing, the Owls notched a second-place finish in its heat to earn a spot in the semis. Temple clocked in at 7:35.479, defeating Duquesne, Fairfield, Colgate, and Ohio State.
The Owls' pair of Brianne Wokciechowski and Nicole Stark had a solid race in their heat. The duo took fourth place with a time of 8:36.495, out-pacing Philadelphia University, but not advancing to the semifinals.
