Men's Soccer Looks to Remain Undefeated Against Rider
9.7.15 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer is set to host Rider University Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Ambler Sports Complex. This is the second of three consecutive home games for the Owls who look to remain undefeated in their 2015 campaign.
The Owls are coming off a thrilling win against #25 Penn State, where Justin Stoddart and Jorge Gomez Sanchez each knocked in a goal for a final score of 2-0. Alex Cagle recorded his second career shutout against the Nittany Lions, making three saves and leading a strong defensive line to hold the opponent to only five shots.
Four Owls earned American Athletic Conference weekly honors, with Cagle being named the Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week, Carlos Moros Gracia being named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Hermann Doerner and Justin Stoddart each earning a spot on the honor roll.
Cagle was also named the Philadelphia Soccer Six's Defender of the Week for his efforts throughout the 2015 season thus far.
The Rider Broncs are coming off a close 2-1 victory over Seton Hall last weekend. The Broncs were down 1-0 with four minutes left in the game when sophomore Jose Aguinaga and senior Florian Valot each found the back of the net to give the Broncs a 2-1 lead to end the game.
Tuesday's match up will be the 35th contest between the Owls and the Broncs. The Owls lead the series 27-5 and last saw the Broncs in 2013 when Temple came away with a 1-0 victory.
