Men’s Soccer Mounts 3-1 Comeback Over Rider
9.8.15 | Men's Soccer
AMBLER, Pa. – Three second-half goals helped propel the Temple men's soccer team over the visiting Rider Broncs, 3-1 on Tuesday. The Owls move to 3-0-1 on the season.
The Broncs took an early 1-0 lead when Sonimi Halliday was able to place the ball into the net after a corner kick in the 12th minute of the game.
After little action in the rest of the first half, the Owls were ready to play in the second half. In the 48th minute, goalkeeper Alex Cagel saved what could have been Rider's second goal on a breakaway.
Nine minutes later, Belal Mohamed slid a pass to Dinho Zwane, who was able to place the ball into the net behind the goalie for the Owls' first score.
In the 74th minute, Hermann Doerner forced a Rider turnover which then landed at the feet of Zwane. From there, Zwane was able to pass the ball to Jorge Gomez Sanchez who, after luring the goalkeeper out of the net, tucked the ball away for the second goal. Two minutes later, Gomez Sanchez would score the final goal on a penalty kick.
After playing in two double overtime games so far this season and to be able to come back to win today, head coach David MacWilliams is impressed with the effort the team has put into their games so far.
"I'm very pleased with the team," said MacWilliams. "I told the players after the game 'we didn't play our best game, but to be down against a good team like Rider and come back to win it is the sign of a good team.' I think it shows the resilience and the character of this team."
The Owls will be back in action on Sunday, September 13 when they take on Yale at Ambler Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
