1.28.16 | Women's Gymnastics
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's gymnastics team will hit the road to pick up on its 2016 season tomorrow evening following their 30-hour bus adventure last weekend. The Owls were unable to compete at the University of Pittsburgh due to the event, but are now set to take on a quad meet hosted by West Chester University. The meet will also feature Centenary College and Ursinus College, and is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
Two weeks ago the Owls logged their most successful weekend of the season, earning three wins across two competitions, including a win against defending ECAC champions, William and Mary. The Owls were also able to top conference foe, Penn, and earn a victory over North Carolina at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational hosted by George Washington.
The team's top score now stands at a 191.375 and the Owls will look to improve on that mark Friday night. Junior Briana Odom has been a standout through the first four competitions, earning ECAC Gymnast of the Week honors for her performance during the two-meet weekend. At the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, Odom topped her career-high all-around mark with a 38.875 that included another career-high on floor (9.8). She currently ranks second in the conference amongst all-around competitors.
Sophomore Sahara Gipson has been another highlight for the Owls, posting strong scores on all four events and leading the vault team at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational with a 9.75.
Impressive performances have also been posted by the team's freshman squad. Classmate India Anderson has been a strong vault and floor worker in her first season, earning top marks of 9.65 on vault twice and a 9.7 on floor.
The Owls will be up against a successful West Chester team.
