Heirakuji Named American Defensive Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple volleyball player Mia Heirakuji was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending October 9. The sophomore led the Owls' back row in a pair of road victories, as Temple topped Tulsa and defending conference champion, SMU.

In two wins, Heirakuji was Temple's top defensive performer, averaging 5.38 digs per set, recording match-best performances in both outings. The libero opened the week with 18 digs in three sets as the Owls swept Tulsa, and she closed the week with a career-best 25 digs, as Temple beat defending conference champion, SMU, 3-2. Heirakuji recorded a perfect 1.000 serving percentage for the week (2 aces, 0 errors, 38 serves) while also recording five assists.

Temple volleyball is 12-4 overall with a 5-1 mark in conference play. The Owls are back in action this weekend with home matches on Friday (USF, 7:00 p.m.) and Sunday (UCF, 1:00 p.m.).
