Women’s Soccer Heads on Final Road Trip of the Season

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer hits the road for its last two games on the 2016 season. Thursday the team will take on the East Carolina Pirates at 7 p.m. in Greenville, N.C. The Owls will then travel to Cincinnati for its season finale against the Bearcats on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
Coming into this weekend's matches, the Owls are 3-14 (0-6 American) with the Pirates at 4-11-1 (0-6-1 American) and the Bearcats at 10-4-3 (3-2-2 American).
Temple is led offensively by junior Gabriella McKeown. McKeown leads the team in goals (3) and points (8). She is also tied with junior Elana Falcone for team lead in assists (2).
In net for the Cherry and White is sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Nash. Nash leads the conference in saves this season with 96. This total is 27 more than the next goalkeeper in the conference. Nash has posted three shutouts on the campaign and has a goals against average of 1.39.
The Pirates have seen two players standout offensively this year. Senior Lana Spitler leads the team with six goals, four assists and 16 points this season. Sophomore Courtney Cash has also been a contributing factor on offense with five goals and 13 points.
In net for East Carolina is redshirt-freshman Caroline Jeffers. Jeffers has saved 68 shots this season has allowed 37 goals for an average of 2.28.
For the Bearcats, their offense is led by juniors Julie Gavorski and Vanessa Gilles. Gavorski has scored eight goals on the season with one assist and a team-high 17 points. Gilles has added five goals of her own with 10 points on the campaign.
The Bearcats have played two goalkeepers this season, but as of late, redshirt-senior Natalie Smith has been in net. Smith has played in 13 games this season with 47 save and a goals against average of 0.79.
ALL-TIME SERIES…
The Owls and Pirates have a two-game history with the Pirates leading the series 1-0-1. The teams first met in 2014 when East Carolina came out on top 2-0. Most recently in 2015, the teams tied 0-0 in overtime.
Temple leads the all-time series against Cincinnati 2-1. The teams first met in 2013 and have played each other once each season since then. Last season, the Owls took the victory 2-1 at home.
