Temple Heads to Tulane for Final Conference Road Test
11.15.16 | Football
PHILADELPHIA-Temple (7-3, 5-1 AAC) rides a four-game conference win streak into New Orleans, taking on Tulane (3-7, 0-6 AAC) in the program's final road matchup of the season. The game is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, at 3:30 p.m. and will air on ASN/ESPN3 nationally and PHL17 in Philadelphia, as well as 97.5 The Fanatic, Temple football's flagship radio station. The Owls posted their second shutout of the year two weeks ago in a 21-0 win over UConn, and they still control their own destiny to finish first in the American Athletic Conference East Division with just two games remaining. Senior QB Phillip Walker continues to impress under center as he has thrown for 16 touchdowns on the season, helping Temple average 31.8 points during its four-game win streak. The ground game, however, has been the true star as of late as senior RB Jahad Thomas has extended his total touchdowns on the season to 14, tied for 14th in the FBS. Thomas and sophomore RB Ryquell Armstead are one of just three pairs of running backs to rush for 10 or more scores this season. The defense is allowing a stingy 22.7 points-per-game and 291.4 yards per game, currently 7th nationally. Â The unit will go up against a Tulane offense that averages 236.4 yards on the ground. Tulane and Temple are the only teams in the AAC to rank in the Top 5 in both rushing offense and rushing defense.
LAST WEEK
Temple enters the matchup with Tulane rested following its only bye of the year, earning the recovery time after a dominant shutout of conference foe UConn, 21-0. Senior QB Phillip Walker tied his season-high with three passing scores against the Huskies, including one to TE Romond Deloatch, who got his first receiving touchdown of the season. Senior RB Jahad Thomas was on the receiving end of the other two scores and has 14 total touchdowns on the season, which ranks tied for 14th in the nation. Meanwhile, sophomore RB Ryquell Armstead had a game-high 133 rushing yards and now leads the team with 807 rushing yards.  The defense continued its sensational play as well, posting its second shutout of the season. Senior DL Haason Reddick added another sack increasing his total to 8.5  — best in the conference — and both he and senior LB Stephaun Marshall tied to lead the team in tackles with eight each.  Special teams came through for the Owls again as senior DL Praise Martin-Oguike had a blocked field goal, marking the third straight week the Owls blocked a kick.
LAST TIME
The Owls defeated the Green Wave, 49-10, last year during their annual homecoming game. Three of the Owls' current tailbacks had touchdowns in the game: Jahad Thomas, who had one rushing and one receiving; Ryquell Armstead, who notched two on the ground; and David Hood, who had his first career score. Defensively, DB Sean Chandler also had a 22-yard interception returned for a touchdown, highlighting an afternoon where the Owls only surrendered 110 yards of total offense.

Temple will head home for its final game of the season celebrating Senior Day against East Carolina, aiming to secure the American Athletic East Division crown for the second straight year.
