PHILADELPHIA -- Temple volleyball player Kyra Coundourides has been named a first-team Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The starting setter for the 16-6 Owls, Coundourides distributes Temple's offense to the tune of 10.65 assists per set, ranking first in the conference and 43rd in the nation. She has racked up 29 aces this season, putting her third in The American in aces per set, while also tallying 10 double-doubles. Coundourides and her teammates have led Temple to its highest NCAA RPI ranking since the 2002 season (#48) and the Owls are currently ranked 49th.
In the classroom, Coundourides is a kinesiology major with a 4.00 grade-point average. She volunteers as a pen pal for local Philadelphia elementary school students and has also volunteered at Southwest General Hospital & Seidman Cancer Center near her hometown of Brunswick, Ohio.
Coundourides is one of just six players named to the District 2 first team, which includes schools in D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. She is now under consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-American team.
