Women's Basketball Hosts Vermont on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team will look to rebound from Thursday's loss at Harvard, hosting the University of Vermont on Sunday. The Owls (3-2) tip-off against the Catamounts (3-4) at 2:00 p.m. at McGonigle Hall, in a game that will be streamed live on OwlsTV.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
After a 2-0 start to the season, the Owls have lost two out of their last three games, including dropping a 73-62 contest at Harvard on Thursday night. 

Senior guard Feyonda Fitzgerald leads the Temple offense with 19.2 points and 6.0 assists per game, also adding 5.0 rebounds per outing, ranking second on the team. Junior guard Tanaya Atkinson has produced 18.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game this season, and has recorded three-straight double-doubles. Junior Alliya Butts chips in with 15.8 points per outing and a team-best 13 steals, while both Butts and junior Khadijah Berger add 2.8 assists per game. 

The Owls are shooting 39.8% from the field and 38.0% from three-point range, holding opponents to just 29.9% from beyond-the-arc. Temple is outscoring opponents by an average of 3.4 points per game, and have forced an average of 16.4 turnovers per contest.

LAST TIME OUT
Temple shot just 32.4% (23-71) from the field, suffering a 73-62 defeat on the road at Harvard on Thursday night. Harvard shot 48.2% (27-56)  from the field and out-rebounded the Owls, 43-39, to grab their sixth-straight victory. Temple forced 17 Crimson turnovers, but Harvard scored 36 points in the paint to account for the point differential. 

Temple junior Tanaya Atkinson recorded her third-straight double-double, leading the Owls on both ends of the floor with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald had 15 points and five assists with junior Alliya Butts also adding 15 points. Freshman Shantay Taylor notched a career-best nine points, while classmate Shannen Atkinson pulled down a career-high seven boards.

SCOUTING VERMONT
UVM enters the game with a 3-4 overall record. The Catamounts most recently topped Holy Cross at home, 63-52 on Wednesday, and also own wins over NJIT and Dartmouth. 

Vermont averages 58.7 points per game, led by Sydney Smith who contributes 11.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per outing. Hanna Crymble and Candice Wright each average 9.7 points per game, with Wright leading the Catamounts with 6.1 rebounds per game, and Crymble sitting second on the squad with 4.9 rebounds per game. Kallie Banker adds 7.7 points per game and to-date has been the team's biggest threat from beyond-the-arc, shooting 45% from three (10-22). 

UVM has been out-scored by opponents this season by an average of 3.3 points per game, but have out-shot opponents 40.9% to 34.7%. 

LAST TIME OUT
Candice Wright notched her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds as Vermont downed Holy Cross, 63-52, at home on Wednesday night. 

The Catamounts out-scored Holy Cross 20-8 in the third quarter, inlcuding opening the frame on a 12-1. That surge erased a narrow halftime deficit. UVM was able to seal the victory in the final quarter, with seven points from the charity stripe in the last 2:16.

Aside from Wright's double-double, Sydney Smith paced the Vermont offense with 15 points, while Kallie Banker chipped in with 12. Smith added eight boards in the victory. 

TEMPLE VS. THE CATAMOUNTS
December 4's game marks the first ever meeting between Temple and the University of Vermont.
