Lacrosse Hosts #16 Louisville Friday; Media Guide Now Online
2.11.16 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - The 2016 season will present a challenge right from the get-go for Temple lacrosse, as the Owls are set to host #16 Louisville in their season opener on Friday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. The Cardinals are 1-0 already after a 14-6 win against Temple's BIG EAST foe Marquette.
Friday's game will not have a live webcast due to the cold temperature. Live stats can be found HERE, and admission to Geasey Field is free.
The Owls are dedicating Friday's game to "Celebrating Geasey Field," as they embark on their final season playing at Geasey. The land that includes Geasey Field was made into recreational fields in 1956, and the current Astroturf 12 was put into place in 2009. During the 2010 lacrosse season, a brand-new state-of-the-art wireless scoreboard was unveiled, generously donated by Greg and Cherifa Howarth ('98). Cherifa Howarth (formerly Cherifa Nouri) played field hockey at Temple from 1993-97. Temple's new facility will be just a few blocks south on Broad Street, at the site of the former William Penn High School. It will also serve as the home of men's and women's soccer, women's track and field, and field hockey. The project is on schedule for a Fall, 2016 completion.
Temple is coming off a 10-6 season that saw the Owls record their best start in 18 years, going 8-1 capped by a win at #19 Delaware. Temple struggled in conference play, going 2-5 and finishing sixth of eight teams. The Owls have again been picked to finish sixth in the BIG EAST in 2016. For a full season preview, click HERE.
Louisville returns eight starters from its 2015 team that finished with a No. 18 national ranking. The Cardinals advanced to their second straiaght NCAA Tournament, falling to #9 Northwestern in the first round. They return four of their top five scorers, including top scorer Kaylin Morissette (44g, 18a), who was an IWLCA First Team All-American in 2015. As a team, Louisville averaged over 12.5 goals per game, while allowing just 9.5 goals against.
The 2016 version of the Temple Lacrosse Media Guide is now available online in PDF format. The guide can be accessed at any time by clicking on "Additional Links" on the Lacrosse website. Check out the guide for information on coaches, student-athletes, history and more.
