Behind the Mask: Fencing's Miranda Litzinger and Jessica Hall

PHILADELPHIA - Throughout the Temple fencing season, two Owls will be featured each week in a series called "Behind the Mask." The second installment helps fans get to know junior foilist Miranda Litzinger and senior epeeist Jessica Hall.
Miranda Litzinger
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
I would have the power to harness willpower and bring things of my imagination into reality like that of a Green Lantern.
How did you get started in fencing?
My dad read me The Lord of the Rings when I was six and, unbeknownst to my mother, let me bid all of my money on a real long sword on Ebay in order to fulfill that dream. However, when it arrived it turned out to be decorative as it was horribly balanced. I was really disappointed but my mom saw that one of my friends was putting together a group for a homeschool fencing class and signed me up since it was similar to what I had wanted.
Do you have siblings? Names, ages?
I have one younger sister named Rachael who just turned 17 in October.
If you could be in any profession after college, what would it be?
I would be a pediatric physical therapist.
If you could change one thing about the world today, what would it be?
I would make it a more compassionate place.
If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Swedish oven pancake.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Helping one of my students who had cerebral palsy learn to fence over the course of a year and working closely with him to aid in his development and seeing the strides he was able to make.
If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
I would be a Siberian tiger.
Favorite exercise in the weight room?
The footwork ladders.
What is something your mom or dad taught you?
That I could be whatever I wanted to be if I just worked hard enough.

The ability to read minds.
How did you get started in fencing?
My mother decided to sign me up.

Entertainer.

I'd make higher education free.
