PHILADELPHIA - Throughout the Temple fencing season, members of the team have been featured in a weekly series called "Behind the Mask." In the final installment, get to know sophomore Becca Stanford (foil) and freshmen Jessica Rockford (sabre) and Quinn Duwelius (epee).

Becca Stanford
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Teleportation.
 
How did you get started in fencing?
My mom saw an ad in a newspaper when I was in fourth grade and signed me and my two brothers up for an after school program. 
 
Do you have siblings? Names, ages?
I have a sister, Lydia who is 15, and two brothers, Nathaniel (17) and Bernard (20).

If you could be in any profession after college, what would it be?
Teaching.
 
If you could change one thing about the world today, what would it be?
I would want accessible education for everyone.
 
If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Grilled cheese and tomato soup.
 
Favorite candy?
Skittles.
 
What TV shows are you hooked on?
I watch most everything on Netflix but I love Orange is the New Black and Bojack Horseman.
 
If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
Tiger.
 
Favorite exercise in the weight room?
Plate flips because they're like a game.
 
What's one word to describe yourself?
Ambitious.
 
What is something your mom or dad taught you?
It's ok to ask for help when you need it.  


Jessica Rockford
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Flying.
 
How did you get started in fencing? 
My childhood friend started fencing and my mom decided to sign me up to see if I liked it.
 
Do you have siblings? Names, ages? 
I have a sister named Katrina and she is 23 years old.
 
If you could be in any profession after college, what would it be?
I would want to be a CEO at a big company like Google or Coca-Cola.
 
If you could change one thing about the world today, what would it be?
I would want to end world hunger.
 
If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would eat pizza for the rest of my life.
 
Favorite candy?
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
 
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is being able to combine national level fencing training/travel and schoolwork and doing well in both.
 
What TV shows are you hooked on?
Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, Bates Motel, Once Upon a Time, American Horror Story and Reign.
 
If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
I would be a cat.
 
Favorite exercise in the weight room?
My favorite exercise is the trap bar.
 
What's one word to describe yourself?
Social.
 
What is something your mom or dad taught you?
My mom and dad taught me that if I want something, I need to work hard to get it. 


Quinn Duwelius
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Super strength.

How did you get started in fencing?
My mother fenced in college and introduced me to the sport when I was 14.

If you could be in any profession after college, what would it be?
Either professional athlete, personal trainer to professional athletes or special agent in the BAU.

If you could change one thing about the world today, what would it be?
I would change everyone to a vegetarian or vegan and promote local farms that produce dairy and eggs that participate in safe practices.

If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My homemade breaded tofu with garlic, pepper and salt.

Favorite candy?
Kit-Kat.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Signing to Temple.

What TV shows are you hooked on?
Criminal Minds and American Horror Story.

If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
Cat or bunny.

Favorite exercise in the weight room?
Trap bar or back squats.
 
What's one word to describe yourself?
Fierce.

What is something your mom or dad taught you?
My parents taught me that pushing oneself in sports is one of the most rewarding things one can do.
