3.18.16 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA – As the 2016 season nears the end, Temple women's gymnastics looks to bring home its first ever team title at the ECAC Championships. On March 19 at 12:00 p.m., the Owls will compete at William & Mary against Brown, Cornell, Penn, Yale, and the hosting Tribe for the final time this season.

Through the regular season, the Owls have garnered a team RQS of 191.39, which currently ranks them sixth in the conference. However, the team has already logged wins over Penn and William & Mary and earned a season-high team score of 192.325 at the mid-way point of 2016.

Leading the pack for the Owls this season has been the vault and floor lineups. Despite a slower start on the floor, the team has consistently improved and earned a season-high 48.675 on the event at the Rutgers quad meet on February 20. India Anderson, Briana Odom and Alexa Phillip have all hit the impressive 9.8 mark this season, with Odom logging the team's highest floor score with a 9.85 at the IGI Chicago Style Meet.

Vault has been another impressive and consistent event for the Owls. Led by Sahara Gipson, the lineup has posted a season-high event score of 48.375 last weekend in their regular-season finale. With a team RQS of 48.215, the vault team holds the highest ranking for individual events in the conference, sitting third. Gipson has posted a 9.8 twice this season and currently ranks second in the conference with a 9.76 RQS behind the Tribe's Brittany Stover.

Freshman Aya Mahgoub has seen a late-season surge on the event, posting a 9.8 last weekend to move up to seventh in the conference with a 9.69 RQS on the event.

With the bar lineup seeing ups and downs throughout the season, the lineup posted its highest individual event score of all the events with a 48.85 at the Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational. Three Owls have earned career-high marks on the event, with Reagan Oliveri leading the team with a 9.85. Odom has earned a 9.8 and Gipson has posted a 9.75.

The Owls' beam lineup has yet to earn a team event score of 48.0 or above, but individual performances have shone throughout the season. Oliveri holds the highest score for the team with a 9.75 followed by Gipson and Kayla Kennedy who have posted scores of 9.725. This weekend the Owls look to put all six routines together and post their best beam score of the season.

The Brown Bears enter the conference championships with a first-place team ranking and a RQS of 193.320. The Bears, as well as the Big Red of Cornell and the Tribe, have posted team scores of 194.0 or above.

In 2015, the Tribe took home the team title with the Owls placing fifth.
