Lacrosse Hosts Region Rival Rutgers on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - Looking to keep its hot streak going, Temple lacrosse hosts region rival Rutgers (1-5) on Wednesday, March 9 at 3 p.m. The Owls (5-1) have won five straight games, including four by 10 or more goals. Wednesday's game is the first in a five-game homestand for Temple over the next three weeks. Fans can watch a free live stream of Wednesday's game on OwlsTV.

In the Inside Lacrosse Division I Women's Media Top 20 Poll for Monday, March 7, the Owls are one of six teams currently receiving votes.

On Saturday, March 12, the homestand continues with a 1 p.m. game against city rival Saint Joseph's. Temple will be celebrating Friends of Jaclyn Day and honoring adopted sister Lily Adkins and her family. 

Headlines
• Temple has won five games in a row, outscoring those opponents 78-28.
• Four of the Owls' last five wins have been by 10 or more goals. Their 19-goal effort against UMBC was the most since a 19-3 win over Cincinnati in 2014.
• Temple trailed Wagner 7-6 early in the second half on March 1, but closed the game on a 6-0 run.
• Senior Rachel Schwaab leads Temple with 14 goals and 23 total points. Schwaab and senior Megan Tiernan have each tallied nine assists to lead the Owls.
• Megan Tiernan has scored four free-position goals to tie for third in the BIG EAST Conference with 0.67 free position goals per game.
• Schwaab's and Tiernan's 1.50 assists per game tie for third among all players in the BIG EAST. Schwaab's 3.83 points per game also rank third, while her 2.33 goals per game rank seventh.
• Eight players have scored three or more goals for Temple, and nine hat tricks have already been recorded by the Owls. Megan Tiernan has hat tricks in three of the last four games for Temple.
• In the Owls' 19-9 win at UMBC on March 5, senior Brenda McDermott scored five straight goals in the first half. She finished with a career-high five in the game, the most for any Owl so far this season.
• Senior goalkeeper Jaqi Kakalecik has played every minute in the cage, making 36 saves while allowing 36 goals for a save percentage of .500 to tie for third in the BIG EAST.
• Junior midfielder Morgan Glassford was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 23 after totaling four goals and 11 draw controls in the Owls' 2-0 week with wins vs. La Salle and UC Davis. Glassford has scored 10 goals to rank fourth on the team, and her 34 draw controls lead the Owls. Her 5.67 draws per game lead all players in the BIG EAST.
• Temple's 6.00 goals against average is tops among BIG EAST teams so far this season.
• The Owls rank second among BIG EAST teams in goals per game (13.83) and draw controls per game (13.50), while ranking third in assists per game (5.50) and points per game (19.33).
• Senior midfielder Nicole Tiernan was a unanimous selection to the 2016 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The Owls were picked to finish sixth of eight teams in the conference in the preseason poll.
• Temple will play 12 of its 17 regular-season games at home on Geasey Field. Wednesday's game against Rutgers is the first of five in a row at home for the Owls from from March 9-26.
• The Owls are looking to make their first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament since joining the league as an associate member in 2014. The four-team tournament will be hosted by Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on May 5 and 7.
• The Owls and the Scarlet Knights are meeting for the 21st time, with Temple holding a 14-6 lead. The Owls earned a narrow, 11-10 road win at Rutgers in 2015. The Scarlet Knights won their first game this year, 14-8 at Villanova, but have gone 0-5 since including losses to three teams ranked in the Top 20.
• The Owls and the Hawks are meeting for the 19th time, with Temple holding a 16-2 lead. Last year's meeting was a 12-11 overtime win for Temple at Saint Joseph's, and overall the Owls have won six straight in the series.
