PHILADELPHIA - Temple fencers Demi Antipas and Jessica Hall were two of 12 to be selected to the 2015-16 Philadelphia Inquirer Women's At-Large Academic All-Area Team, selected by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Temple gymnastics junior Briana Odom was also selected to the team, giving Temple three of the 12 available spots.

Antipas and Hall, both seniors, ended their Temple careers with a bang by advancing to their first-ever NCAA Championships.

For Antipas, the honor came after a career-best second place finish in foil at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. She served as both the overall team captain and the foil squad leader in 2015-16, starting the year by tying for sixth at the Temple Open and then placing sixth yet again at the Penn State Open.

With 33 wins this year, Antipas finished her career with a record of 139-110. After her runner-up finish at the NCAA Regional, Antipas concluded her Temple career with a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Majoring in psychology, Antipas has been named to the President's Honor Roll each year for having a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Two-time epee squad leader Hall also capped four years of hard work and dedication by earning her first-ever spot at the NCAA Championships in 2016. Hall finished her Temple career with an outstanding record of 171-112 in dual meets for the Owls.

She placed 21st in epee at the NCAA Championships in late March, after earning a career-best fourth-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional two weeks earlier. She was a finalist at the regional meet for a second year in a row after taking 10th overall as a junior. A speech, language and hearing science major, Hall has been named to the Director's Honor Roll each year for having a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Drexel University sophomore Hayley Hughes was named the 2015-16 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's At-Large Performer of the Year. Hughes was named a second-team All-America by the Women's College Squash Association, becoming the first All-America in program history.

A business major at Drexel, Hughes finished the 2015-16 squash season ranked No. 16 in the country after posting a 13-7 overall record, including a 13-4 mark as the Dragons' No. 1 player. The sophomore helped Drexel finish second in the 2016 'B Division' Kurtz Cup at the Team National Championships, and went on to compete individually in the Ramsey Division Bracket for the nation's top 16 players.

Joining Antipas, Hall and Hughes and Odom on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team are Drexel's Elisa Money; Neumann University's Bek Lucas; Haverford's Leila Braun, Sarah Madigan and Julie Petersen; and Amber Hu, Marie Stephan and Alejandra Trumble from the University of Pennsylvania.
