Golf Tied for 11th after Day One at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Trey Wren shot a one-over 72 to lead Temple to a tie for 11th place at the 30th Annual Princeton Invitational following the first round Saturday. The 15-team Invitational, being held at the 6,415-yard, par-71 Springdale Country Club, cancelled its afternoon round for Saturday due to weather.
"We started out strong, but the team struggled through the back nine as the conditions deteriorated," said Temple coach Brian Quinn.
Freshman Gary McCabe was two strokes back of Wren and tied for 32nd overall. Â Senior All-American Brandon Matthews carded a six-over 77 to tie for 53rd while redshirt freshman John Barone and sophomore Mark Farley tied for 60th overall with seven-over 78s.
Freshman Sam Soeth, playing as an independent, shot a five-over 76 to tie for 47th.
As a team, the Owls are tied with city-rival Saint Joseph's with a team score of 301. Â Duke leads the field with a 274, 12 strokes ahead of second place Columbia (286).
The Blue Devils Jake Schuman leads the 81-player field with a six-under 65. Â His two teammates, Max Greyserman and Alex Smalley, are tied for second with three-under 68s.
Play concludes Sunday morning.
