Track & Field Heads to the 2016 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships

PHILADELPHIA – Beginning on Thursday, May 12, Temple track & field will be competing in its final meet of the season at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The Owls will head to Orlando, Fl. for four days of competition and will have athletes competing in 13 different events. At last year's outdoor championships, Blanca Fernandez took home the gold in the 1,500m run and the team earned 25 total points for an 11th place finish.
The Owls will first be featured on Friday, May 13 in the 400m hurdle trials and the 200m trials. Seven Temple athletes will be competing across those two events beginning at 7:15 p.m.
Saturday will be a busy day at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex with six events between 3:00 and 9:00 p.m. starting with the long jump. At the indoor championships, Bionca St. Fleur set a new indoor school record with a mark of 6.01 meters that placed second overall and looks to improve on her outdoor seasons-best jump of 5.73 meters. Classmate Jimmia McCluskey will also be competing in the event.
Following the long jump will be the 1500m run, where Fernandez looks to defend her conference title. Freshman Katie Leisher will be joining Fernandez in the event, as well.
The day will wrap up with the 100-meter hurdle trials, 400 and 100 meter runs, and the 3000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Katie Pinson will be featured in the final event and recently set a new school record at the Princeton Invitational with a time of 11:14.99.
On the final day of competition, the Owls will be competing in the triple jump, high jump, 5000-meter run, and 4x1 and 4x4 relays. Sunday will also include the final rounds of the previous day's preliminary races.
