Track & Field Adds Two Finals Qualifiers on Saturday at American Athletic Conference Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. – In an action-packed day for Temple track & field, six different events saw four personal-records and two finals qualifications. In addition, two more Owls earned top-10 finishes in their respective events.
Bionca St. Fleur and Jimmia McCluskey kicked off the day in the long jump where St. Fleur qualified for the finals with a jump of 5.72 meters. McCluskey posted a jump of 5.31 meters. In the finals, St. Fleur repeated her 5.72-meter jump to place seventh overall.
In the 1500-meter race, Katie Leisher ran a new personal-best time of 4:42.92. Defending champion Blanca Fernandez ran the event in a time of 4:37.16 to earn her spot in Sunday's final. In the preliminary round, Fernandez clocked in the sixth fastest time.
Immediately following the 1500-meter race, four Owls ran in the 100-meter hurdle preliminary. Sylvia Wilson led the pack with a finals-qualifying time of 13.68. Simone Brownlee, Crystal Jones and Sydnee Jacques also ran the event, with times of 14.37, 14.53 and 14.54, respectively. Jacques time marked a new personal record, as well.
In the 400-meter race, Kenya Gaston and Aliya Sharp recorded times of 56.36 and 58.91, respectively.
Wilson collected a new personal record following her performance in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.28 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
The 3000-meter steeplechase closed out the night with Katie Pinson breaking her own school record with a time of 10:50.73. Overall, Pinson placed sixth overall.
Tomorrow will see eight different events, including three championship races, throughout the day. Jacques and Simone Chapman will kick off the day in the triple jump at 2:30 p.m.
