Nearly 100 Student-Athletes Participate in 129th Annual Commencement Ceremonies

PHILADELPHIA - A total of 131 Temple University student-athletes are confirmed graduates this academic year, including 96 who participated in the 129th annual Commencement ceremonies on Friday at the Liacouras Center. In all, more than 9,000 students will graduate with the Class of 2016.
"It gives me great pride to congratulate our student-athletes on this outstanding accomplishment," said Temple University Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "Temple Athletics strives for excellence, and there is no greater success than graduation. Â Our young men and women continue to set records in the classroom, raising the bar each and every semester, and I know they will go on to be as outstanding in their professional endeavors."
The 131 student-athletes represent all of Temple's 19 intercollegiate sports. Football has the most graduates with 26, followed by women's lacrosse with 13. Â Men's crew, field hockey and women's soccer each had 10 graduates.
Temple Athletics' Class of 2016 is comprised of student-athletes from 20 states and 105 cities. Â The graduates combined for over 15,000 credit hours with 32 different majors. The 131 Owls combined for a 3.22 grade-point average (GPA) and 40 perfect individual semesters. Â Sixty-one student-athletes appeared on the Dean's List of their respective colleges a total of 235 times.
In celebration of the accomplishments of the graduating seniors, Temple Athletics hosted a reception on Wednesday evening prior to graduation exercises for the student-athletes and their families. Each graduate was presented with a special student-athlete sash that was worn during the ceremonies.
