6.15.16 | Men's Crew
PHILADELPHIA -- Two members of the Temple men's crew team earned Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selections. Recent graduates Kati Jordan Funck and Evan Hammond represented the Owls on the team, which honors the area's top students that combine athletic and academic excellence.
Funck, who graduated with a degree in early childhood education, served as a coxswain for the men's crew team all season. A member of Temple's Trustee Ten, she had one of the 10 highest grade point averages among all student-athletes at Temple. Athletically, Funck was the coxswain of the Owls' highly successful lightweight four crew that earned Dad Vail goal in 2015, finished fifth at Dad Vail's in 2016, and earned two-straight appearances at the IRA National Championships. This season, her boat also took bronze at both the SIRA Championships and the Murphy Cup, while also earning a gold with the lightweight eight at both the Head of the Schuylkill and Braxton Memorial Regattas in the fall. She hails from Annville, Pa.
Evan Hammond, a recent graduate with a degree in finance, was a member of Temple's varsity eight boat all season. A native of Collegeville, Pa. he also served as a team captain for the Owls and won the team's Sklar Student Ambassador Award. Hammond was the fifth-seat in Temple's top crew, which captured a Dad Vail medal for the first time since 2008. His boat earned the Owls a team bid to the 2016 IRA National Championships, with their resume also including a gold at the San Diego Crew Classic and silver medals at both the Murphy Cup and Bergen Cup regattas this season. Hammonds was a member of the Fox School of Business Honors Program and participated in the Vanguard Accelerated Development Program with a full-time job starting this summer.Â
