Stephens-Franklyn Inducted into Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA — Former Temple women's basketball great, Marilyn Stephens-Franklyn, celebrated her birthday by being inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday. 

The Owls' all-time leading scorer and rebounder, Stephens-Franklyn scored 2,194 points and pulled down 1,516 rebounds in her career in cherry and white. In 1984, she was selected for the Kodak All-American basketball team. 

Stephens-Franklyn was a two-time Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year and was inducted into the Big 5 Hall of Fame in 1989, after being named a first-team All-Big 5 player in each of her seasons at Temple. She was also the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year in 1983 and 1984, and later was named part of the Atlantic 10 Legend team. 

Stephens-Franklyn was a member of the US Women's Junior Olympic team in 1981 and was invited to the US Olympic trials in 1984. After graduation, she played professional basketball overseas in Italy and Spain. Upon her return to the states, she was an assistant coach for her alma mater before taking over the head coaching position at Cheyney University.
