TUVB Faces Tough 2016 Schedule
7.25.16 | Women's Volleyball
PHILADELPHIA -- The 2016 Temple volleyball season kicks off on August 26, and this season the Owls will once again play a tough schedule through non-conference and conference matches.Â
Â
At a glance, the 2016 TUVB campaign features four tournaments, five opponents that made the 2015 NCAA Tournament, seven opponents with an RPI of under 100 in 2015, nine opponents that racked up 19 or more wins last season, and 15 total home matches.Â
The Owls' season kicks off with two of those home matches, at the 2016 Temple Invitational. Both Northern Arizona and Hampton will be coming to McGonigle Hall, with the team playing Northern Arizona on Friday and Hampton on Saturday. Following their first home tournament, the Cherry and White will head down to Puerto Rico to play Virginia Tech and Alabama the weekend of September 2.Â
Temple will play in two more tournaments, including the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing Cherry and White Challenge and the Philadelphia Big 5 Tournament.  The Cherry and White Challenge will be held in McGonigle Hall September 9 and 10, as the Owls welcome Rutgers, UNH, and Cleveland State to town. Following that action, Temple will play in the Big 5 Tournament, competing at Penn on Friday, September 16 and La Salle on Saturday, September 17.
The Owls' varied non-conference schedule will lead them straight to American Athletic Conference play, which kicks off on Friday, September 23. Temple will be home for its first conference series, as Tulane and Houston come to McGonigle Hall for matches on Friday and Sunday. Temple then goes on the road to face UConn, Memphis, Tulsa, and SMU.Â
Temple is back at home in October, facing the Florida foes, as USF (October 14) and UCF (October 16) will play at McGonigle Hall. Temple then alternates home and away series' for the final four weeks of the season, as the Owls host UConn (October 26), Memphis (October 28), Cincinnati (November 11) and ECU (November 13), and play on the road at ECU, Cincinnati, Houston, and Tulane.Â
The Cherry and White are coming off a second-place finish in the American Athletic Conference, and back-to-back 24-8 seasons. The Owls return four All-Conference selections in seniors Kirsten Overton and Tyler Davis, and juniors Irem Asci, and Izzy Rapacz.Â
