Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Navy Invitational

Annapolis, MD- Temple men's tennis started off its season Friday evening at the Navy Invitational.
Temple's opponents include Bucknell, Delaware, George Mason, George Washington, Mary Washington, Monmouth, Morgan State, Navy, Richmond, and St. Bonaventure in the singles and doubles. Temple had a tough outing Friday night in the single matches. Artem Kapshuk was able to advance to the second round on the winner's side. Kapshuk beat James Lange of George Washington, 6-0 and 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Uladzimir Doorash, Eric Biscoveanu, Florian Mayer, Vineet Naran, and Filip Stipcic will play in the second round on the consolation side after losing their first round matches.
In Flight D, Vineet Naran suffered a tough loss to Max McDonald of Bucknell 6-0 and 7-5.
In Flight E Steven Hollander beat Robert Chen from Monmouth 6-4 and 6-0. Hollander also beat Paul Vrana of Morgan State 7-6(5) and 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.
In the doubles matchups, the Owls won several matches. The pairings of Artem Kapshuk and Eric Biscoveanu beat Bucknell's Gerber/ Erskine 7-5. The pairings of Kapshuk and Biscoveanu also beat Fleming/ Brown from Mary Washington 6-4, which advances them to the semifinal round of doubles in Flight B on Saturday.
The tandem of Flip Stipic and Vincent Naraan beat Giuffrida/Chen from Monmouth 6-3, which advances them to the semifinals in Flight C in the doubles.
The men will be back in action this afternoon in both singles and doubles matches.
