1.14.17 | Women's Gymnastics

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Temple women's gymnastics continued their already record-breaking season with a new season-high team score of 192.225 at the Ozone Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. The night was highlighted with a vault team that set a new program record on the event. Overall, the Owls placed second by just two tenths behind Illinois State.

The Owls once again opened up their competition on the floor, posting a 48.025 and improving from the season opener. Senior Briana Odom led the way after a missed week at Penn State with a 9.75. A collection of solid scores followed with India Anderson and Daisy Todd notching scores of 9.6. Jaylene Everett and Reagan Oliveri rounded out the lineup with scores of 9.525 and 9.55, respectively.

Exploding after a solid first event, the Owls went six-for-six on vault, setting a new program record with a 48.875. The previous record was shared by lineups of the 2012 and 2014 squads who both earned a vault total of 48.65. Tonight's lineup was led sophomore Aya Mahgoub's career-high 9.825. Mahgoub is just the fifth Owl in program history reach post a score of 9.825 on vault. Sahara Gipson continued the success, posting a 9.8, matching her season high from 2016 and taking second place overall. Freshmen Yasmin Eubanks and Everett were close behind with scores of 9.775. Although one was dropped, both Odom and Todd posted scores of 9.7 to complete the record-breaking rotation.

Looking to take the momentum over to bars, captain Breahna Wiczkowski kicked off the event with a season-high 9.7. Alexa Phillip continued her success from last weekend, posting a 9.725. Sophomore Elizabeth McDuffie saw her first meet action on bars this season after competing in exhibition at Penn State, garnering a 9.675. Oliveri and Eubanks rounded out the lineup with scores of 9.675 and 9.5, respectively. Overall, the bar team improved their week one mark with a total of 48.275.

In the Owls final event of the night, the beam team put up a 47.05 total event score. Wiczkowski earned a 9.7 to lead the team and tie for the event title with Illinois State's Meredith LaRoche. Freshman Whitney King made her lineup debut with a solid 9.6 followed by Todd's 9.525. Some missed steps from Odom, Gipson and Reagan left the Owls to count two lower scoring routines on their way to a 47.025 event score.

Todd once again held strong in the all-around, posting a 38.275 for a second-consecutive third place finish.

The Owls will open up their home schedule next weekend with a dual meet against local rival Ursinus on January 22. The dual meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. in McGonigle and will be the Owls' Military Appreciation Meet.
