Men's Cross Country Freshmen to Compete at USATF Junior Cross Country Championships

PHILADELPHIA – On Saturday, Temple men's cross country will send two runners to participate in the USATF 2017 Junior Cross Country National Championships for the first time in program history. Kevin Lapsansky and Zach Seiger will represent Temple in the men's junior 8K race on Feb. 4 at 12:45 p.m.
Lapsansky and Seiger are two of the best incoming freshmen to enter into the men's cross country program.
"The most important thing to me is to continue to place the emphasis on running well on the grass as a cross country program," said head coach James Snyder. "Having two of our top freshmen, who hold the highest conference finishes for freshman we have ever had, compete against all of the other top freshmen in the nation will be amazing for them. We are excited to represent Temple and it will be great for our guys to watch the country's professional runners at the national meet whereas they normally only get to see them on television."
Both freshmen made consistent contributions in scoring throughout their first season at Temple. Lapsansky competed in all eight races for the Owls, Seiger competed in six.
The duo scored in the top-30 at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships. Lapsansky earned the No. 22 spot with a time of 25:37.6. Seiger came in 27th after completing the race in 25:57.7.
The 2017 USATF Cross Country National Championships will draw the top runners from around the country to run for bragging rights in Bend, Oregon at the Rivers Edge Golf Course. The senior men's race serves as the selection for the IAAF World Cross Country Championship team. The top six runners from the junior men's race will be named to the junior national team.
