Men's Tennis Has Impressive Outing at ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple men's tennis team finished its play at the ITA Regionals in Lynchburg, Va. this past weekend. The weekend for the Owls was highlighted by senior Thomas Sevel and junior Alberto Caceres Casas making it all the way to the doubles semifinals where they lost to the No. 1 ranked duo in the country Aswin Lizen and Matthew Lord from the University of Virginia.
Match Results
> The Caceres Casas and Sevel doubles pairing won four successive matches over William and Mary (8-7(8)), Penn State (8-5), Old Dominion (8-3), and Richmond (8-2), before falling in the semifinals in a tough match vs. Virginia (4-6, 7-5, 6-10).
> Sevel and Caceres Casas also made it to the round of 32 in singles play with Sevel defeating Georgia Tech's Marco Lam (6-3, 6-2) and earning a comeback victory over VCU's Inigo Torre Markin (2-6, 6-3, 6-3). Caceres Casas defeated William and Mary's Michael Chen (6-3, 6-4) and Longwood's Raisei Sakai (6-4, 6-4).
> Juan Araoz and Mark Wallner joined them in the Round of 32 in singles play with Araoz defeating Delaware's Dustin Britton (6-2, 6-1) and Virginia's Jefferson Dockter (6-3, 6-2), and Wallner defeating Mt. St. Mary's Jackson Wood (6-3, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6(3)) and Old Dominion's Michael Weindel (withdrew due to injury).
Match Notes
> A record eight players competed in the event including Sevel, Caceres Casas, junior Uladzimir Dorash, sophomores Juan Araoz, Eric Biscoveanu and Francisco Bohorquez, and freshmen Michael Haelen and Mark Wallner .
> Sevel and Caceres Casas making it to the ITA semifinals was the farthest a doubles pair from Temple has ever made it in the ITA Regionals.
> A record seven players made it to the main draw of the singles.
