Women's Gymnastics Hits Program-First 194 Team Score at #27 UNH

2.19.17 | Women's Gymnastics

DURHAM, N.H. – Temple women's gymnastics had itself another record-breaking afternoon, posting the program's first ever team score above a 194 with a final mark of 194.35. Overall, the hosting New Hampshire Wildcats took the dual with a final score of 196.45. The 2017 Owls now hold the top five team scores of all time, having first broke the school record at West Virginia with a 193.625.

Kicking off their day on bars, the Owls posted their second-highest event score of the season with a 48.55. The lineup was led by freshman Daisy Todd's third 9.825 of the season that tied for the second-best score overall. Kerry Arone matched her season high with a 9.75 and was followed closely by a pair of 9.675 scores from Reagan Oliveri and Alexa Phillip. Yasmin Eubanks' mark of 9.625 rounded out the counting scores with Breahna Wiczkowski posting a 9.6 to cap off a six-for-six opening rotation for the Owls.

The always consistent vault lineup stayed true as the owls posted their second-consecutive score of 48.675. Sophomore Aya Mahgoub posted a new career-high and added an event title with a score of 9.85 on a clean stuck yurchenko full. Eubanks added a 9.775 with a pair of 9.7 marks coming from Todd and Jaylene Everett. Sahara Gipson added a 9.65 with Briana Odom grabbing a 9.55 to complete another successful day on the Owls strongest event.

Led by Odom's 9.75, Temple's floor team kept the success going and matching the bar event total of 48.55. Both Gipson and Alexa Phillip added scores of 9.725 in the fourth and fifth lineup spots. Everett was able to post a 9.7 as the team's lead off to be followed by Oliveri's 9.65 and Todd's 9.6.

Knowing the 194 team score would need a strong performance on beam, the Owls stepped up and matched their season high on the event with a 48.575. Wiczkowski topped her own career high mark with a 9.85 to take second overall. One judge awarded Wiczkowski with a 9.9. Whitney King ranked second for the Owls with a 9.775. A trio of 9.65 scores from Oliveri, Todd and Gipson sealed the deal for another historic day in Temple gymnastics history.
Todd kept up her own consistency in the all-around with a 38.775. The freshman went up against big-time all-around performaers Danielle Doolin (39.125) and Meghan Pflieger (39.4) to take third overall.

With enough history to rewrite the record book almost entirely, the Owls will turn focus to Friday's Pink Invitational. Inside the Philadelphia Convention Center, Temple will take on Maryland, West Chester and Southern Connecticut State for a 5 p.m. quad.
