#23/20 Women's Basketball Falls at #1 UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The top-ranked UConn Huskies doubled up on the #23/20 Temple women's basketball team, as the Owls fell 90-45 at the XL Center on Wednesday. The win was the 102nd-straight for UConn, as they move to 27-0, 14-0 in the American, while Temple dips to 21-6, 11-3 in conference play. 

A game removed from its worst shooting percentage and point total of the season, UConn's offense rolled, as the Huskies shot 59% from the field for the game. UConn only got better in the second half, combining shoot 70% (21-30) in the final 20 minutes. Temple was held to 27.1% from the field and 36% (9-25) from three.

Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while junior Donnaizha Fountain had 12 points. Junior Alliya Butts ended the game with 10 points and two steals, while classmate Khadijah Berger had six points and six boards. Tanaya Atkinson matched Berger with a team-high six rebounds. 

After a 6-0 start for UConn, Temple battled back to within four, 12-8, on a three-point play from Atkinson. From there, UConn rattled off an 11-0 run to lead 23-8, before a Berger three set the score to 23-11 after one. The Huskies shot 57.9% from the field (11-19) in the first, while Temple shot 25% (4-16). 

Butts opened the second quarter scoring with a three that cut the UConn lead to nine, 23-14. Another Huskies' run, this one 10-0 on eight Samuelson points, pushed the UConn advantage to 33-14. Fountain nailed a jumper to halt the run, and a Berger three make it 38-19 before Samuelson struck again, setting the halfime score to 41-19.

Berger led the Owls with six points and five rebounds in the first, while Butts had five points. Atkinson also pulled down five rebounds in the first 20 minutes, while Fitzgerald added three points, three boards and two assists. For UConn, Napheesa Collier had 12 points and Samuelson added 12 at the break. 

UConn scored eight unanswered points to take a 49-19 lead early in the third quarter. The Huskies' advantage ballooned to 35, before Temple got hot from three, as Fitzgerald, Fountain, and Butts all connected to set the score to 65-35. 

Collier led all players with 31 points on 13-of-14 shooting, while Samuelson finished with 19 points, and Gabby Williams, 15.
