#20/23 Women's Basketball Hosts Cincinnati on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA -- The #23/20 Temple women's basketball team will host Cincinnati on Sunday, at 2:00 p.m. in the home finale for the Owls. The game, which will feature "Senior Day" celebrations, is being broadcast by ESPN3.Â

SCOUTING TEMPLE
Temple is 21-6 overall with an 11-3 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Owls had a five-game win streak snapped with a loss at #1 UConn on Wednesday, but still have sole possession of second place in The American.
Four Temple players average in double-figures in scoring, led by senior guard Feyonda Fitzgerald's 16.7 points and 7.2 assists per contest, with the assist total ranking her first in the American and eighth in the nation. Junior Donnaizha Fountain contributes 14.6 points and 7.6 rebounds a game, also adding 49 total steals, while classmate Alliya Butts averages 14.4 points per game with a team-best 54 steals. Junior Tanaya Atkinson averages 12.0 points per game and leads the team with 8.1 rebounds a game.
Elsewhere, senior forward Ruth Sherrill averages 4.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while junior Khadijah Berger averages 4.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Senior Safiya Martin (1.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg) tops the team with 31 total blocks.Â
Temple averages 70.0 points per game, giving up 60.2. Â The Owls shoot 39.2% from the field and 33.0% from three. Temple forces 16.6 turnovers per game and out-rebounds opponents by a +3.4 margin.Â

Temple will honor its four members of the class of 2017 prior to tip-off -- Monasia Bolduc, Feyonda Fitzgerald, Safiya Martin, and Ruth Sherrill.
LAST TIME OUT
The top-ranked UConn Huskies defeated #23/20 Temple, 90-45, at the XL Center on Wednesday. A game removed from its worst shooting percentage and point total of the season, UConn's offense rolled, as the Huskies shot 59% from the field for the game. UConn only got better in the second half, combining shoot 70% (21-30) in the final 20 minutes. Temple was held to 27.1% from the field and 36% (9-25) from three.
Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while junior Donnaizha Fountainhad 12 points. Junior Alliya Butts ended the game with 10 points and two steals, while classmate Khadijah Berger had six points and six boards. Tanaya Atkinson matched Berger with a team-high six rebounds.

Cincinnati is led by newcomer, Shanice Johnson, who averages 15.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, while racking up totals of 77 steals and 39 blocks. Guard Ana Owens adds 12.4 points and a team-high 4.2 assists per game, while Bianca Quisenberry adds 10.5 points per game. Nikira Goings adds 6.2 points per game as the "sixth man," while Chelsea Warren contributes 5.2 points per game.Â
The Bearcats shot 38.4% from the field and 31.8% from long-range, adding up to 63.9 points per game. Cincinnati has a +1.7 turnover margin on the season, but is being out-rebounded by 1.7 boards a contest.
LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati dropped an 80-69 game on the road at East Carolina on Wednesday night. A slow start to the game and being outscored 27-13 in the third quarter were the differences as the Bearcats could not fully recover from a 23-point, second-half deficit. Cincinnati did cut the deficit to only eight points with under a minute to play but ultimately ran out of time to complete the comeback. Â
Shanice Johnson posted her 12th double-double of the season with team highs of 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Bianca Quisenberry and Antoinette Miller each added 14.Â

Temple owns the all-time series against Cincinnati, 5-1, including sweeping the season series last year.

Sophomore Alliya Butts led four players in double figures for Temple, scoring 22 points and adding five rebounds. Senior Erica Covile had 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Tanaya Atkinson finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Donnaizha Fountain had 13 points. Feyonda Fitzgerald rounded out the box score with seven points and a team-high four assists.
