Lacrosse Hosts Lafayette at 1 PM on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - After splitting its last two games on the road, Temple lacrosse (3-1) returns home to host Lafayette (2-1) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. The Owls lead the Leopards 26-2 in the all-time series, and have earned 20 straight wins dating back to 1991.
Temple is 3-1 to start the 2017 season and is coming off a narrow, 14-13 win at city rival Saint Joseph's on Feb. 22. Three players recorded hat tricks in the win, led by senior Carly Demato with four goals. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kelsea Hershey made a season-high eight saves to get the win in the cage.
The Owls' three wins have all been nail-biters, with their other two victories coming by just two goals each. In their home opener against Monmouth on Feb. 15, Temple came from three goals down. Senior Brenda McDermott scored the game-winning goal with 12 seconds left, and senior Anna Frederick added an insurance goal in the final seconds. Four players notched hat tricks in that 18-16 victory, led by sophomore Amber Lambeth who tied her career high, set one game earlier, with four goals. Frederick, Demato and junior Nicole Barretta all scored three goals apiece. The Owls' four hat tricks were their most in five years. The last time four Temple players had hat tricks was in a 20-16 loss at Richmond on April 15, 2012.
McDermott was named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week on Feb. 14 after adding four goals to two assists in Temple's season-opening, 13-11 win at Rutgers on Feb. 11. She followed up that performance with a career-high seven points in the Monmouth win four days later, adding six assists to her game-winning goal.
Senior Morgan Glassford tallied a career-high 11 draw controls for the Owls against Monmouth. She recorded 78 draw controls in 2016 which were a BIG EAST-best and rank first all-time in a single season at Temple. With 4.11 draw controls per game, Glassford also ranked 18th among all players in NCAA Division I. Her 122 career draw controls already rank fourth all-time on the career list at Temple with almost a full season left to play.
The Lafayette Leopards won their first two games of 2017 before falling 15-10 vs. Rutgers on Feb. 21. Leading Lafayette is reigning Patriot League Attacker of the Week, senior captain Kirsten Wilhelmsen with 13 goals and three assists along with a team-best seven caused turnovers. Wilhelmsen scored an impressive eight goals in the Leopards' 17-14 win at Binghamton on Feb. 16. Last season, Lafayette went 6-11 overall and 2-7 in Patriot League play.
Temple has dominated in the all-time series against Lafayette with 26 wins in 28 meetings. The Owls have won 20 straight games against the Leopards, last losing back in 1991. In 2016, Temple won 17-6 on the road, and came out on top by a nearly identical score of 17-7 at home in 2015.
