Gymnastics Posts 193.95 to Win Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – In its second home competition of the 2017 season, Temple women's gymnastics broke its own school record with a 193.95 to take first place overall at the Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational. The Owls were able to top Pitt's 193.525 for their first victory over the Panthers since 1995. West Chester fell into third place with a 191.675 followed by Ursinus who posted a 190.85.

Starting the day off on vault, junior Sahara Gipson led the afternoon with a season-high matching 9.8 that took a share of the event title with Tracey Pearson and Meagan Oscor of Pitt. Freshman Daisy Todd began her day with a season-high vault mark of 9.775 that sophomore Aya Mahgoub matched in the fifth spot. Event anchor Yasmin Eubanks posted a 9.725. With a slight miss from Jaylene Everett, the Owls counted a 9.45 from Briana Odom to total a 48.525 on the event.

Moving to bars, the Owls pulled in a 48.075 led by Todd's 9.775. Todd's performance earned her a share of the bar title with West Chester's Majesta Valentine. Eubanks posted a new season high on the event with a 9.75 followed up by Reagan Oliveri's 9.675. Breahna Wiczkowski led off the event with a 9.575 and Gipson's 9.275 rounded out the counting scores for the Owls' bar rotation.

The Owls built big momentum on beam with a season-high event total of 48.575 and a six-for-six lineup. Whitney King and Wiczkowski led the Owls with matching scores of 9.75, setting a new season-high for King. The pair tied for third overall on the event. Gipson added a season-high matching 9.725 with Kerra Masella adding a 9.7. The lineup was rounded out with a 9.65 from Oliveri and a 9.625 from Todd.

Saving the best for last, the Owls set a new season-high on floor with an event total of 48.8. Gipson posted the highest score for the Owls with a 9.8, a new career high. Oliveri also notched a new career-high of 9.775 in the third lineup spot. Everett improved her floor mark from last weekend with a 9.75 that was followed by a career floor debut from Yasmin Eubanks who also posted a 9.75. Todd was the fifth Owl to earn a new season or career-best mark on the floor with a 9.725. Odom finished out the lineup with a 9.575.

In the all-around, Todd nearly matched her season-high mark with a 38.9 and was edged out for the top spot by Valentine's 39.075. Gipson was able to put up her first all-around score of the season with a 38.6 that ranked third.

The Owls will now prepare for a long stretch of road meets starting at Towson on Sunday, Feb. 12. The tri-meet will also feature #25 West Virginia and set to begin at 2 p.m.
