RALEIGH, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore John Barone carded a one-over 72 for his final round at the Wolfpack Spring Open. Unfortunately he was the only Owl to break 80 on the day as the finished 15th in the 16-team tournament held at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State.
Barone, who entered the day at seven-over, finished with a 221 to lead the Cherry and White and tie for 51st overall among the 90-player field. Sophomore Gary McCabe (72-73-82, 227) was next for Temple and tied for 70th overall. Sophomore Trey Wren (74-74-80, 228) was one-stroke behind McCabe and tied for 72nd. Freshman Sam Soeth (74-79-81, 234) and junior Mark Farley (78-78-81, 237) rounded out the TU quintet in 83rd and 85th place, respectively.
Host North Carolina State led the field with a 25-under 821. The Wolfpack bested second-place Clemson (834) by 13 shots. The Wolfpack duo of Nolan Mills (-13) and Jacob McBride (-9) finished one-two overall.
Temple next plays at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship, April 23-25 at the Innisbrook Resort - Copperhead Course in palm Harbor, Fla.
