Wren Tied for 13th at The American Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Sophomore Trey Wren carded a two-over 73 in the second round of the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship Monday.  Wren leads Temple and is tied for 13th overall with a five-over 147.   As a team the Owls sit in eighth place at the tournament which is being held at Innisbrook Golf Resort's par-71, 7,125-yard Copperhead Course.

Redshirt sophomore John Barone shot a 74 for the second straight day and stands tied for 18th with a six-over 148.   Sophomores Gary McCabe (74-77, 151) and Sam Soeth (78-76, 154) are next for the Cherry and White, tying for 29th and 37th, respectively.  Redshirt freshman Erik Reisner (76-81, 157) rounds out the squad in 44th place.

USF's Jimmy Jones, one of five golfers shooting below par, leads the 45-man field with a three-under 139. The Bulls (570) lead the tournament by nine strokes over Cincinnati (579).  UCF (583) is third followed by Houston (585). UConn (587), Memphis (594), SMU (595), Temple (598) and East Carolina (602).

Play concludes with a final round Tuesday.
