Lightweight Eight Highlights Men's Crew Racing this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- With last weekend's races canceled due to a flooded Schuylkill, the Temple men's crew team had three boats in action this weekend, adding races for the L8, 3V, and F8 boats. The racing was highlighted by an outstanding showing from the lightweight eight at the Knecht Cup Regatta.Â
Racing in the heavyweight varsity eight category, Temple's lightweight boat ended a three-race weekend with a victory in the petite final of the Knecht Cup. The Owls finished in 6:11.29 to outpace the varsity eight boats from Mercyhurst, Bucknell, UNC, Rutgers, and Trinity.Â
Earlier on Sunday, the boat took fifth in the semifinals of a tight race, clocking in at 6:10.25 to earn a spot in the petite final. The Owls opened racing at the event on Saturday, taking second in the heats, in 6:06.92.
Also in action this weekend, Temple's third varsity eight and the freshman eight both raced Navy and Drexel on the Schuylkill. Temple's 3V finished fourth in a competitive field that included a pair of Navy boats and one Drexel entry, while the freshmen placed third behind Navy and Drexel.
The Owls are back in action in Oak Ridge, Tennessee next weekend, racing at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.
