PHILADELPHIA -- Temple rower Tyler Baldo was honored for academic and athletic performance, being named one of nine student-athletes on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Rowing Team. The team is nominated and voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.

The six seat in Temple's varsity eight boat, Baldo helped his crew to a silver medal at the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships and an eighth place finish at the 2017 Dad Vail Regatta (missing the grand finals by .09 seconds). He also guided the team to gold at the Jacksonville Sprints and bronze at the 2017 Bergen Cup City Championships. An Advertising major, Baldo has interned at the Omnicom Health Group working on website rebranding and mobile app launch and was also a marketing intern at the CDM Group in New York City.

Joining Baldo on the Academic All-Area team was Drexel's Joseph Masgai, the Performer of the Year, along with fellow Dragons Brett Barry and Ivo Krakic. Garren Best, Eric Jones and Thomson Rymer represented Saint Joseph's, while La Salle's Josh Brooks; and Penn's Jasper Liu also appeared on the team.
