Steinsberger Named American Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced its second round of cross country weekly honors in 2017 tand graduate student Marc Steinsberger was named Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 18. Steinsberger led Temple men's cross country to its second-straight team win of 2017 on Friday Sept. 15 at the Rider Invitational.
Steinsberger earned the individual title at Rider two years in a row. On Friday, he finished the men's 8K race in 24:56.11. The team's first place finish marked the first time since 2005 that the men's cross country program won its first two meets of the season. The weekend's performance helped Temple jump to No. 9 in the Mid-Atlantic region in United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches rankings. Before this week, the Owls were unranked in 2017.
"Last weekend's meet at Rider was a great team win," said head coach James Snyder. "Marc really ran well over the last two miles to take the individual title over a quality field of teams from our region. I know that he and the rest of our top group are excited to head to Southbend, Ind., next week to compete against an even higher level of competition at the Notre Dame Joe Plane Invitational."
