Wren Extends School Record Streak as Owls Place Third at Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Senior Trey Wren extended his school-record streak of sub-70 rounds to five Tuesday with a two-under 69 to tie for second at the Phoenix Invitational. The senior golfer teamed with redshirt senior John Barone, who shot a six-under 65, to lead Temple to a third place finish at the 18-team Phoenix Invitational. Wren also tied the Temple records for 54-hole score with a 204 and for lowest under-par 54-hole tournament at nine-under.
Barone rebounded from an uncharacteristic 77 in yesterday's second round with his career-best round. It was also the lowest score for the tournament and tied for the third lowest round in Temple history.

- Wren was one over after the front nine, but closed strong with four birdies against a lone bogey in the back nine to keep his streak alive. He led the field with 18 birdies for the tournament with eight coming on par 5 holes.
- Barone, who finished tied for 21st with a one-over 214, was back to his old self, firing nine birdies on the day. A double bogey on the par 4 seventh and a bogey on the par 4 11th prevented him from moving past Walter Brown's school record of 63 set in 1973 at the Yale Invitational.
- Senior Sam Soeth had his best outing of the season, shooting an even par 71 on the day. He finished tied for 58th with a seven-over 220.
- Redshirt junior Erik Reisner carded a 75 and finished tied for 46th overall (+5, 218) while junior Gary McCabe (t69, 222) shot a 78 for his final round.
- Host Elon (843) won the tournament, besting Ohio (848) by five strokes and Temple (849) by six.
- The Owls shot a four-under 280 on the day, the second best round behind Ohio's 279.
- The Owls complete their fall schedule at the City 6 on Saturday, Nov 10.
