Volleyball Plays at Tulsa and Wichita State this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team has a pair of road games this weekend, traveling to Tulsa for a Friday night match and Wichita State for a Sunday match.
THE OWLS
> Temple is 5-16 overall with a 2-7 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
> Last time out, the Owls split a home series, topping Memphis 3-0 but falling to Tulane 3-0.Â
> Temple hit .318, a season-best performance, to sweep Memphis on Friday, 25-15, 25-21, 25-20.
> On Sunday, the Owls couldn't repeat Friday's feat, as Temple fell to Tulane, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22.
> Temple's offense is bunched with five players averaging better than 2.00 kills per set, led by sophomore Katerina Papazoglou (2.33 k/s) who also chips in with 3.00 digs per frame.
> Junior Dana Westfield averages 2.27 kills per set, while freshman Miray Bolukbasi adds 2.19 per frame.
> Graduate student Iva Deak adds 2.00 kills per frame with a team-best 66 blocks, while classmate Irem Asci averages 2.00 kills and 2.88 digs per set.
> Senior Hannah Vandegrift leads Temple with 5.35 assists per set, while freshman Tyler Lindgren adds 5.29 assists per set.
> Senior Mia Heirakuji leads the defense with 3.92 digs per frame.
> As a team, Temple hits .190, with opponents hitting .228 against the Owls.
SCOUTING TULSA
> Tulsa enters Friday's match with a 14-7 overall mark, including a 6-3 record in the American Athletic Conference.
> Emily Thorson leads the Golden Hurricane offense to the tune of 3.42 kills per set. She also adds 2.27 digs per set and a team-best 22 aces.
> Rachel Moore (2.79 k/s) and Elyse Savadove (2.06 k/s) also bolster the Tulsa offense.
> Callie Cook leads the team with 79 total blocks also adding 1.81 kills per set.
> Mariah Pardo is Tulsa's primary setter with 8.14 assists per set, adding 2.42 digs per frame.
> Defensively, Taylor Horsfall tops the team with 5.64 digs per set, a number that ranks her third in the conference and 32nd in the nation.
> As a team, Tulsa hits .195, holding opponents to just a .181 attack.

> The Shockers have lost three-straight matches, all coming in five-set heart breakers.
> Wichita State is led offensively by Megan Taflinger who racks up 3.11 kills per set and Tabith Brown who contributes 2.88 kills per frame.
> Taflinger leads the team with 23 aces, while Brown is second on the team with 2.46 digs per frame.
