Field Hockey Drops Final BIG EAST Game to Quinnipiac

10.26.18 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - After staying with Quinnipiac for much of the game, Temple field hockey dropped a 5-2 decision to the Bobcats (6-10, 2-5) when the Owls (2-15, 0-7) allowed two late goals. Temple will host Saint Francis at 1 p.m. in its final game of the 2018 season on Sunday, Oct. 28 for Senior Day.

Game Summary
> Less than two minutes in, Quinnipiac scored on its first shot of the game to put the Owls in an early 1-0 hole.
> Temple quickly took the offensive, racking up shots and making one count in the 10th minute when junior Cristen Barnett took a pass from junior Kathryn Edgar and scored her first goal of the season to tie the game.
> In the 20th minute, the Bobcats' Bianka Strubbe scored on a direct penalty corner to give her team a 2-1 lead that stood as the halftime score.
> After Quinnipiac extended its lead with a goal four minutes into the second half, the Owls answered quickly when junior Lucy Reed scored on a rebound.
> Reed's goal got Temple within one, but the Owls could not score the equalizer and the Bobcats added two more in the final seven minutes.
> Both teams finished with nine shots on goal, but the Bobcats made seven total saves to the Owls' four. Quinnipiac also finished with an 8-5 edge in penalty corners.

Individual Highlights
> Reed's goal was her fourth of the season, giving her the team lead.
> With a point on an assist, Edgar now has 11 total points to lead the Owls.
> Barnett's goal was her first of the season and second of her career.
> Both Chloe Johnson and Maddie Lilliock made two saves for Temple.

Postgame Quotes from Head Coach Marybeth Freeman
> "The details that we needed in both our attack and our defense circle (were not successful today). We didn't finish and we had some soft goals scored against us."

> "I really liked how we were able to play combination hockey to generate our goal-scoring. I think both Lucy and Cristen had beautiful goals. It's great (to get goals in open play). It's a testament to the hard work our attack has been doing to get into the circle and create opportunities and that paid off."

> (On Pride Game) "I think it's all about inclusion. Our team does a great job of celebrating diversity. Our team is an inclusive team and celebrates everyone regardless of who they are or what they identify as. That message needs to be consistent across the board. It's all about respect. Celebrating a Pride Game really emphasizes the importance of respect and inclusion."
