Women's Basketball Tops USciences in Exhibition

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team topped visiting University of the Sciences, 76-64, in an exhibition game at McGonigle Hall on Tuesday night.
Keys to the Game
> Five Owls finished in double figures, all underclassmen, as Temple came-from-behind to top the Devils.
> USciences had a hot first half, draining eight threes, leading Temple by five after one, and one point at the break.
> Temple turned the tides with a hot third quarter, outscoring the Devils, 24-17.
> A 12-1 run, including nine-straight Owls' points late in the key third quarter shifted the momentum, turning a one-point deficit in to a nine-point lead.
> Temple increased its lead in the fourth quarter with an 18-12 edge in the frame.
Individual Highlights
> Freshman Alexa Williamson led the Owls with 19 points, adding six rebounds, while classmate Marissa Mackins had 13 points and three steals.
> Sophomore Desiree Oliver notched 13 points with four assists, three steals and a team-best seven rebounds.
> Sophomore Emani Mayo had 11 points and four assists, while classmate Mia Davis added 10 points, five boards, and three assists.
> Graduate student Alliya Butts made her return to the court, finishing with eight points and a team-best six assists.

> "We scheduled this exhibition because we wanted to play a good team that was going to shoot well. It was a really good test for us and I think it was important for us, especially the young guys, to get out of our comfort zone and play a team like this. It's going to help us moving forward."

> "Today felt good. I wasn't really nervous after about two minutes into the first quarter. Then I wasn't focused on anything but playing basketball."
> We need to work on help defense and communicating on defense, that's key. We were getting killed not talking on defense."

> "I was a little nervous in the beginning, but then a few minutes into the game, I realized there was nothing to worry about, and I just started playing."
