11.12.18 | Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team continues its road swing with a Wednesday match-up at Ole Miss. Temple plays the Rebels in Mississippi at 7:00 p.m. EST on SEC Network+. Seth Austin (play by play) and Lindsay Roy (analyst) have the call.

THE OWLS
> Temple is 2-0 to start the young season after wins over Delaware State and Saint Joseph's.
> The Owls finished 12-19 a year ago, with a 3-13 record in the American, but upset sixth-seeded Wichita State to advance to the conference tournament quarterfinals.
> Temple had a pair of preseason All-Conference selections in graduate student Alliya Butts and sophomore Mia Davis, who was the only underclassmen on the list.
> Davis leads the Owls in points and rebounds, averaging 16.5 and 8.5 respectively.
> Butts has averaged 15.0 points per game with a team-best 3.5 assists per outing.
> Desire Oliver averages 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while Emani Mayo adds 9.0 ppg and Alexa Williamson chips in with 7.5 ppg.

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 58, Saint Joseph's 52
> Temple needed a late defensive hold and got it, sealing a gritty Philadelphia Big 5 win at Saint Joseph's, 58-52, on Friday.
> Leading 52-50 with 2:11 to play, Temple closed the game on a 6-2 run to seal the victory.
> Temple finished the game with a 43-32 advantage on the glass, and out-shot the Hawks, 38% to 32%.
> Desiree Oliver was a rebound shy of her first career double-double, tallying totals of 15 points and nine boards, adding a pair of steals.
> Mia Davis finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while Alliya Butts had 12 points.
> Shannen Atkinson ended her night with a career-high eight points with six boards.

SCOUTING OLE MISS
> Ole Miss is 1-1 to start the season under new head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin.
> Crystal Allen leads the Rebels' offense with 18.5 points per game.
> Jhileiya Dunlap paces Ole Miss with 9.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
> Shannon Dozier (7.5 ppg) and Shandricka Sessom (7.0 ppg) aid the offense.
> La'Karis Salter eads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game, while Mimi Reid averages 5.0 assists per game.

LAST TIME OUT: IUPUI 66, Ole Miss 58
> A late comeback fell short for Ole Miss against IUPUI on Friday at home.
> Down by just three at the half, Ole Miss gave up a 20-14 third quarter, putting the Jaguars on top by nine.
> Ole Miss got the IUPUI lead down to two (50-48) early in the fourth quarter and trailed by only three (55-52) with 4:17 to play, but the Jaguars used an 11-4 run over the final minutes to seal the win.
> Crystal Allen led Ole Miss with 21 points and five boards, while Shandricka Sessom added 11 points.

TEMPLE VS. OLE MISS
> Ole Miss leads the all-time series with Temple, 3-1, most recently winning in Philadelphia last season.
> The teams first met in 1985 with the Rebels winning 84-74 in Honolulu.
> Both teams won their home games in a home-and-home series in 2001 and 2002. Temple won 84-69 in Philadelphia in 2001, while Mississippi won 54-53 in Oxford in 2002.

LAST TIME THEY MET
> Ole Miss won 64-48 at McGonigle Hall on November 25, 2017.
> Temple held the high powered Rebel offense mostly in check, as Ole Miss came into the game averaging nearly 88 points per outing.
> However, while Temple's defense was clicking, the offense went cold, shooting just 25% from the field (15-60), including going just 1-14 (7.1%) in the fourth quarter.
> The Owls forced 23 Ole Miss turnovers, but Temple was out-rebounded 47-36.
> For Temple, senior Tanaya Atkinson turned in her fifth double-double in six games, leading the Owls with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals.
> For the Rebels, Shandricka Sessom tallied 23 points with eight boards, while Promise Taylor added 15 points and eight rebounds.
> Then a Rebel and now an Owl, Chyna Nixon started the game with three points, two assists, and two steals.
